It was sunny! Let's say that again! IT WAS SUNNY!...and we at last heard those beautiful words...."have you got sun-cream on?" ..I wore shorts, sunglasses and a hat (not that I need of course) . The lads were sporting their new club shirts and we were rearing to go at 9.30! It was just a shame that we didn't get to play the first game until just before 11! Once again all the squad qualified for the under 9 age group and our hopes were sky high!
We played to a similar format to that in Pentyrch, that is two groups with the winners and runners up in each going forward to the Semi-finals. The lads played superbly in the group matches starting with a hard fought 0-0 draw against Whitchurch before defeating Capital Trucks, Pentyrch and Tre Celyn Acorns. Both ourselves and Whitchurch remained undefeated to go forward to the Semi-finals where we met Cogan. The game was locked at 0-0 at half time with the Eagles having the better of the first half in which Cogan failed to get a shot in. Early in the second half a Cogan midfielder launched a high dipping ball towards our area and unfortunately with the sun up high straight in our heroes faces it found its way into the back of the net! After this we were chasing the game and despite several good shots we failed to conjure up an equaliser and so we were undeservingly eliminated. This was such a disappointment after having the better of the game in the semi' and having played so well against some excellent sides at the group stage. All the lads should be proud of themselves for qualifying for the knock-out stages and perhaps next time we'll get a little luck to help us finish the job!
Hope to see you at the Presentation Evening on Thursday!
