Splott Albion Defeated!
The lads played at the Heath for the first time since November 15 last year and for only the third time this season! So much for a home pitch! The corresponding away fixture finished 5-4 in favour of the Eagles so nothing could be taken for granted.
A word about the weather.............dry, bright...............but somewhat cold...with the wind chill factor it felt about minus 80!! With Hassan out, Declan ill (happy birthday!) and a bunch of no shows Dermot was left with a bare eleven so at least there were no selection headaches!
Despite the bitterly cold wind both sides produced an entertaining match for the very hardy souls on the side!
The Eagles had the advantage of the wind and slope in the first half and used this to secure a 2 goal lead by half time with goals by James and Niall. Given the conditions the Marlboro Sideline crew wondered if this would be enough. However, the boys battled strongly against the elements and increased the lead to 5-0 with goals from Iwan, Jonathan and Aaron before Splott were able to take advantage of the conditions by scoring 2 goals to reduce the deficit to 5-2. Aaron capped a fine all round display by finishing off a fine break when put through by Iwan to make the finishing score 6-2. Well done to all players on a fine game in difficult conditons.
