What a lovely bright day it was! Pity about the wind! And what a wind it was! Our hardy band of camp followers need more praise than usual today! We were cold! So cold! Those of us with wind proof tops were grateful for them ! Poor old Ross's Dad really suffered! Those smart fleeces are nice and warm indoors aren't they? But enough of the supporters, what about the lads and the games?
We started with a wonderful win against Lisvane. The first half finished goalless but Lisvane scored just after the break. Our lads responded magnificently, scoring three high quality goals to win 3-1. Its not easy to come back from a goal down at the start of the second half so they deserve every possible plaudit for the way things were turned around. The second game saw an exciting game against Pentyrch. The wind by now was a considerable force and we went two up before half time playing with it. However in the second half our defence came under heavy pressure from long balls and Pentyrch pulled on back soon after the break. It looked like Pentyrch were about to equalise when our goalkeeper Sam was finally beaten with a fine shot.........but with the ball heading high into the centre of the goal two arms shot up and a fine save was made.......by Declan!! Luckily, he wasn't red carded and there are no penalties at Under Ten level! Well done Dec! However, Pentyrch weren't to be denied and the pressure they exerted finally bore fruit and they equalised with five minutes to go. The last five minutes needed a lot of concentration by our defence but they held out magnificently and the final result of 2-2 was a fair one.
After the exertions of the first two matches our lads finished with a slightly under par performance against Splott who finished deserved victors. However even this match saw some fine touches including a well taken goal by Aeron.
Well that's the end of our first season! I'm sure you will agree that the lads have come on in leaps and bounds since last September and since all are eligible to compete at the same level next year the expectations are high!
On behalf of all fellow supporters I would like to congratulate our hard working dedicated managers who have given their time and expertise freely and willingly! Thank you Mike and Dermot! A wonderful job!
