Eagles March On!

This morning saw the first of two back to back visits to Willows (weather permitting, of course!) to play Splott Albion, Lisvane Panthers and Pentyrch. The lads arrived rearing to go after last weeks fixtures at Whitchurch Hospital were rained off!  No rain this morning and fortunately the early morning fog had cleared by the time the games got underway and in fact at the end we were bathed in sunshine yet again! Dermot and Mike had the all our current squad available this morning with the exception of young Mike who is still suffering with his broken fingers. However he tells me these are on the mend and it shouldn't be long before he's again available for selection.

The  round-up of today's results!

Game 1 Marlboro Eagles  0 Splott Albion 0
Game 2 Marlboro Eagles 1 Pentyrch 1
Game 3 Marlboro Eagles  5 Lisvane 3

Today's squad: Sam, Declan, Leo, Owen, James, Niall, Aaron, Jonathan, Ross, Sion, Ewan, Hassan.

Two Draws and a Win

The first game against Splott saw our heroes miss  several chances which ultimately cost us a fine win to start the day off with! Fortunately, chances at the other end were snuffed out by some stern defence and a draw was probably a fair result. (0-0)
Against Pentyrch a disallowed goal from a corner was quickly followed by a fine long range shot from Hassan which rocketed into the back of the net! Unfortunately a little piece of slack defending meant that Pentyrch equalised almost straight away.  Despite constant Eagle pressure the score remained 1-1 at the end.  All of  the Fan Club on the side felt both these games could have been won and we were looking forward to the lads putting things right in the third game against Lisvane.
Things didn't start well for our heroes and we fell behind to an early Lisvane goal. However, the Eagles soon replied and it was 1-1 going into the second quarter of the match. Things looked bad for us five minutes later, as Lisvane managed to creep around our defence twice and at half time a jubilant Lisvane were leading 3-1! Dermot and Mike had some talking to do at half time and whatever they said certainly had an effect! The lads came out steaming and went straight at the Lisvance defence and the lead was soon cut back with an early strike by Niall in the second half. Our defence was looking far more solid with the Lisvane strikers having no free space to run it at all. Our lads took over the midfield and our attack made the most of the extra chances and it wasn't long before the game was squared at 3-3. Things were set for a grandstand finish but there seemed to be only one team in it  now, with the red and white shirts all over the opposition! And so it proved! The lads took the lead for the first time at 4-3 and then adminisitered the coup de grace with a minute to go!  (5-3) What a comeback! The second half performance was something to behold and all except one little person on the side found the action riveting! (See photo below!)
