After last weeks diabolical wind and cold today saw us at the wonderful sunny venue of Heol Hir's home pitch at Cefn Onn! What a welcome it was to be watching with the warmth of the sun on our backs! Considering the rain we had at the beginning of the week the pitches were in marvellous condition and our thanks go to Heol Hir for organising a splendid venue.
The round-up of today's results!
Game 1 Marlboro Eagles 2 Llanrumney Bulldogs 0
Game 2 Marlboro Eagles 11 Llanederyn United 0
Game 3 Marlboro Eagles 5 Heol Hir 0
Three more players in our squad today compared to last week, so Mike and Dermot had to ring the changes for this mornings games. However, such is the strength of our squad that at no time during the morning could the playing side be described as "under-strength". It was nice to have the chance to play against two sides, Llanrumney and Llanederyn who we have not met before this season,
Game 1 saw a dominant Eagles display against Llanrumney Bulldogs. Our lads peppered shots at the Llanrumney goal but an inspired display by the opposition's keeper kept the score down to 1-0 at half time. The second half saw a similar situation develop as again Llanrumney's keeper kept out the shots. Eventually a second shot found its way into the net, ironically deflecting in off the unlucky goalkeeper and despite having all the play the lads finished the game only 2-0 victors.
Game 2 v Llanederyn United was a very one sided affair and the whole game was played in the opposition half. The lads took the goals well and a special mention should be made of Ross's cracking volley in the second half.
Game 3 saw us play Heol Hir, a team who had also beaten Llanrumney and Llanederyn so all was set up for cracking game of competitive football. However, the lads really turned on the style and took total control early on and held on to a very dominant position for the whole game. The lads scored five well taken goals and finished deserved victors.
Despite the amount of control displayed in all games Jonathan was called on to make several spectacular saves and played an important part all morning. It's very easy for a goalkeeper to "go to sleep" when his team is on top but to his credit Jonathan stayed alert all morning.
Next week sees us visit the Marl, Grangetown to play Grangetown BC, Llanishen Dons and Inter Cardiff and the lads will have to maintain the excellent form they have been showing to continue the run of success
