Marlboro Eagles Football Club
Saturday 17th November 2001
Glyncoed School
Where's the keeper?
The morning was overcast but at least it was dry and not windy! The pitch was a little heavy and the grass a little long, conditions which might not have suited our lads who are known for their close ball skills. Straight away our managers were presented with a problem. Sam was away with his family and Jonathan was not available which meant we had no goalkeepers! No worries! Up stepped Declan (3 halves) and James, Niall and Ross (1 half each). All four lads performed splendidly and special mention should go to Dec who had a generally boring time of it, as the Eagles were well on top in the halves he stood between the sticks!

All Action Games!
Agreements with the other managers meant that in all games we played with all nine of our players today so Dermot and Mike had a welcome respite in substation decisions! They deserved it! And must have been mightily relieved at the performances of all four heroic stand-in keepers! Game 1 saw us take Pentwyn B to the cleaners once more in a very quick moving match! Four splendid goals were scored and no threat was posed on the Marlboro Goal.
The second game against Pentwyn A was a very tight affair and the lads competed with gusto throughout the game only to lose to the odd goal right at the death!
Game 3 was a one-sided affair against St Mellons B and our lads should be commended for the way they conducted themselves throughout the encounter. The game went on for a long while as the St Mellons lads seemed to be struck by a succession of unlucky injuries but our lads stuck to it and deservedly scored four more excellent goals!
