Marlboro Eagles Football Club
Saturday 13th October 2001
Glyncoed School
The Undefeated Run Ends!
Pentwyn always provide an excellent venue at Glyncoed and today was no exception! We had the honour of playing against the A and B sides from Pentwyn this morning together with Capital Trucks! Our run of luck with the weather continued this morning; we again avoided the rain! However, the early morning mist meant there had been a very heavy due and our feet were a little wet! Well, we have to complain about something. Our happy band of supporters were again evident in numbers and we continue to be the best supported side in Cardiff! One unfortunate happening to report this week was that Michael broke his finger in school whilst playing in goal at break time !(no pun intended). Let's hope it heals soon!

Yes, the run has ended! Well it had to at some time!
The first game saw our heroes overrun Pentwyn B 5 -0 with our opponents given no chance of scoring at all. Our play was crisp and the goals well taken although the ease of the match meant that we were losing our shape a little. However the opposition weren't able to take advantage and the goals kept going in up front.
The second game saw us play against Pentwyn A and an excellent goal by Sion mid-way through the first half saw us into a 1-0 lead. Pentwyn came back strongly and they deservedly equalised just before half time. The second half saw some slightly disappointing play from the Eagles. Our general play was below usual standards with the attack lacking in shots on goal and the defence allowing small strikers to creep into unmarked areas in front of goal. Inevitably we fell behind on one of these occasions and Pentwyn went further ahead shortly after. Being 3-1 down was a new experience for our lads this season and it took until the final few minutes for their game to raise up to normal levels. Near the end an excellent goal saw us back to 2-3 and we were pushing for the equaliser only for the whistle to sound for the end of the match! So the run without defeat has gone! Well at least that's one millstone we can forget about! Even Man Utd lose now and again!
The third match was against the same Capital Trucks side who we also played at St Mellons two weeks ago. We again outclassed them scoring 7 goals to one in a very one sided affair. Well done to Sam for defending almost alone on several occasions!
At the end of the morning some of the lads looked despondent! It shows just how much all our expectations have risen since last year when two wins in a morning would have been cause for several days of celebration! Well done lads!
