Trelai Park

Another Fine Morning at Trelai!
Someone once said its always windy at Trelai! Well they didn't know what they were talking about! Today it was beautiful sunshine all the way and no wind at all! The lads appear at Trelai for the second time this month and we're all hoping for more competition that last week!

Owen's out for the season with his knee injury but it was good news for the managers with the re-availability of Ross. Ross has been suffering with injury and illness but is now back to full fitness!

Squad for Today
Declan,  Niall,  Mike,  Aaron,  Hassan,
Ross,  James, Jonathan, Ewan

Round up  of Today's results

Marlboro Eagles 3 Danescourt YC 0
Marlboro Eagles 9 Capital Truck 0
Marlboro Eagles 2 Whitchurch A 1

Game 1 against Danescourt started at a furious pace. Danescourt were unable to get near the Marlboro goal due to the stalwart defence of the intimidating  back line of Hassan, Declan and Ross, who all towered above the opposition and were first to every ball. Passing movements forward by the Eagles were crisp and accurate and it was no surprise when Aaron was  put through to skilfully send the ball past the keeper to open the scoring. The second half started well with the lads looking odds on to extend the advantage. Early in second half Declan caught a stud on top of his right foot and left the field injured. The lads didn't let up however and a second goal went in after a dispute as to whether it was a goal. Fair play to the Danescourt Supporter club who all called to the referee that the ball had gone in and it was 2-0.  To rub it in the lads scored a third near the end and the game finished with the lads deserved 3-0 victors.

News from the sidelines told us that Capital Truck had defeated Whitchurch 1-0 so the lads realised that they were going to have to work hard for a victory.
However, clinical finishing from Aaron and Niall saw the eagles score on each of their first three attacks and with a fourth going in before half time the game looked all over. The managers decided to give Jonathan a run outfield and James took over between the sticks. James proved up to the task and kept things calm at the Marlboro end. At the other end things were anything but calm as the lads peppered the Capital Truck goal and saw their efforts rewarded FIVE  more times to take the game NINE nil including a nudge by Jonathan! It should be stated that Capital Truck were a competitive team but this was one of those games were absolutely everything clicked for the Eagles.

As usual the game against Whitchurch proved a closely fought affair even though the Whitchurch lads had a disappointing morning so far in terms of results. The lads had to work very hard for the first goal and only made things comfortable with a second mid-way through the first half. Even then the Whitchurch lads didn't stop trying and they deservedly scored a late consolation goal with a fine headed effort from their striker Will who I believe normally plays in goal!
The lads controlled the game well towards the end and could have scored again during several goalmouth scrambles.
The game finished 2-1 and the lads had 3 victories out of three in the bag!

Lets hope Wales do as well against Azerbaijan!
