All Foes Fall before the Mighty Eagles!

Our hardy band of players and supporters visited in Pontprennau for the first time this morning for what looked like quite a challenging morning! Our opponents for the day were old foes Llanishen Dons and Pentwyn Dynamoes together with the highly rated Butetown Colts. It looked as though the winning start to the season would be severely tested. One thing to look forward to was an appearance by Tim "play on" Rhoden who I spotted early on wearing a natty whistle around his neck!

Eagles Fly On and On and On!

Game 1 was against old foes Llanishen Dons who have proved top class opponents in every previous meeting. An early lead taken by the Dons looked ominous but our heroes soon took total control and equalised soon after and went on to take the lead through a second Aaron goal before half time. The pace of the second half was totally dicated by the Eagles and it was no surprise when a third goal went in midway through the second half. The game finished at 3-1 and a highly deserved victory was achieved.
Next up was Pentwyn Dynamoes who  had brought a very large squad with them: at least 18 players were counted warming up before the game! Scoring wise, the game proved a very close affair but all the chances belonged to the Eagles with Jonathan having a quiet time in goal. The game finished 1-0 to the Eagles but this did not reflect the respective number of shots made by the two teams. Still any win against a strong club is a good win!
Butetown had earned two creditable draws against Llanishen and Pentwyn so the third game had to be taken seriously. They had come back from 2- down against the Dynamoes so the Eagles would need to concentrate.  The lads really put things together and by half time had taken a three goal lead with superb strikes! Things didn't stop there as in the second half the pressure was piled on our opponents and the match finished 7-1 in the Eagles favour!

And so another successful Saturday morning drew to a close! I thought the lads coped wonderfully well on  pitches which were hard and very worn in the goal areas! It was good to see the lads coping well with slightly larger goals and I found the "no punting" rule an excellent innovation.  Well done too to Tim who refereed the final game with much aplomb!
