Marlboro Eagles Football Club
Saturday 19th October 2002
Willows School

Back to the Willows!

This seasons first visit to Willows sees the lads up against old rivals Splott Albion and two of our Marlboro club colleague sides C and D.  The days after last weeks matches saw the first heavy rain of the season so the lads arrived at Willows unsure of how the pitches would play. The lads will need to pick things up a little from last week games which saw displays that could only be described as a little lacklustre; displays which were in stark contrast to those performances served up on previous Saturday mornings!
Squad for today
Niall, Aaron, James, Michael, Ross, Jonathan, Declan, Owen, Hassan, Sion, Leo

Results round up
Marlboro Eagles 0 Marlboro D 0
Marlboro Eagles 7 Marlboro C 0
Marlboro Eagles 0 Splott 1

After watching a goalless draw in the first game the crowd go wild when the first goal goes in at the end of the first half against Marlboro C!

Eagles Regain Form!

Game one: Eagles v Marlboro D
A spirited D side put in a sterling performance against our heroes and even though our lads were well on top none of the numerous shots hit the net! On another day the game could have ended 4 or 5 nil but football is a funny old game!

Game two: Eagles v Marlboro C
For most of the first half it looked like another stalemate would be witnessed until the lads found the net  as half time approached. The crowd went wild as it was the first goal witnessed by Marlboro Sideline Crew  since last weeks horrible performances.  Fortunately, the side was well policed and quiet was restored before half time (well done Paul and Stu!). The second half started very competitively but in a few blinks of an eye the lads had opened a two, three and then four goal lead. The traffic was now all one way and three more goals went in before the end to make the score seven nil!

Game 3: Eagles v Splott Albion
We saw a splendid game to finish with the lads starting by creating chance after chance after producing highly creative football. However, chances do not win matches and at half time the score remained 0-0 and there was all to play for. The second half carried on in the same vein with the Eagles well on top doing all the attacking but the Splott keeper made a string of splendid saves from Aaron, Niall and Hassan.  Then a Splott break up field resulted in a neatly taken goal and the lads only had a few minutes to pull it back. In situations like these our lads always show themselves to be made of stern stuff and came right back with yet more chances on goal. The lads conducted themselves superbly under some highly questionable tackling and all kept their concentration high. For once though things would not go our way and the lads went down to a 1-0 defeat!

Even though we finished with an identical win/loss/draw record to last week all will agree that this morning saw  much improved Eagles performances! It was good to see the lads back on form and we all look forward to more entertaining football next week at Cefn Onn School!
