Mark Freeman is married to Sue and has three step-children and one daughter.
He was born in North London, and became a Bedfordshire resident in 1960 when his family moved to Aspley Guise.

He attended the local primary school, and went on to attend Cedars School in Leighton Buzzard in 1964.
Mark lived in Aspley Guise until 1975, and after a brief time in Hemel Hempstead, moved into Leighton Buzzard when he and Sue married. Initially they lived in Regent Street before moving to Linslade in 1984.
Mark has been involved in politics since the 1970 General Election, when he joined the Liberal Party. He first stood for election to Council in 1976 and stood as Parliamentary Candidate for South West Bedfordshire in 1992.
