24 January 2000 Dear Mr Bowles PUBLIC TRANSPORT: MAINS ESTATE, MILNGAVIE Thank you for your undated letter regarding the above. Councillor Eric Gotts
Date : 23 February 2000 Dear Councillor Gotts MAINS ESTATES RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION I attach a copy of a letter received from Mains Estates Residents Association requesting the provision of a bus service to the estate. You will no doubt recall that this issue was considered last year after a formal request was received from the local MP and after a considerable degree of consultation it was decided not to implement the diversion to service 49. This diversion would no longer be possible as the operator has highlighted to us that there is insufficient running time to divert via the Mains Estate. The residents are asking for a dedicated local bus service in the area linking the Mains Estate to Milngavie Centre and the railway station. The operators of the unsubsidised bus services in the area, First Bus, have indicated to us that they would be unwilling to divert any of their services into the area, and therefore the purpose of my letter is to advise you on a proposed course of action. In terms of our guideline criteria, the provision of a subsidised bus service in the Castlemains Estate would not be justified as the majority of residents are within 0.25 miles of alternative bus stops, and accordingly, the request from the Residents Association will be put to a future Services Committee with a recommendation that no action be taken. Let me know if you require any further information. Yours sincerely Douglas Ferguson Director of Operations cc: Councillor Eric Ross, Chair SPTA Text of a letter to the Association from Strathclyde Passenger Transport

15 May 2000 Dear Mr Bowles MAINS ESTATE, MILNGAVIE - PUBLIC TRANSPORT I refer to previous correspondence concerning the provision of a service between the Mains Estate and Milngavie Town Centre Railway Station. At the meeting of the Services Committee of the Authority on 28 April 2000, the Committee decided as the majority of residents lived within the maximum guideline criteria walking distance that tenders would not be invited for a subsidised bus service between Mains Estate and Milngavie Town Centre. However, I understand that First Glasgow are actively considering the operation of a bus service in Mains Estate. The contact name at First Glasgow is Bryan Tennant who can be contacted on 0141-636-xxxx. Yours sincerely G M Heaney Head of Operations cc Councillor Eric Gotts, East Dunbartonshire Council |
