Text of a letter from the Association to Strathclyde Passenger Transport sent 20 January 2000
Strathclyde Public Transport Authority
Attention: Michael Hayes, Public Transport Officer Dear Sirs Mains Estate, Milngavie Public Transport The Mains Estate Residents Association's Traffic Subcommittee recently had a meeting with a representative of East Dunbartonshire District Council where the matter of improved public transport for the Estate was discussed. The Committee would appreciate your comment on current considerations for providing a meaningful service for connecting the internal areas of the estate with other transport services including the train from Milngavie Station and First Bus routes. We consider that a service could be provided that would link the estate with Milngavie centre, Tesco and the railway station. This service could assist in reducing the private vehicle volume from the estate and could reduce the vehicle loading on parking at, or near, the railway station it would also provide suitable transport for those without access to a private vehicle throughout the day. We believe that a reliable, regular service would be welcomed by residents and that it would be utilised to the benefit of the operator. We would be pleased if you would be willing to meet with representatives of our traffic sub-committee to review this matter. In this respect could you please contact the chair of the subcommittee, Alan McMinn, on 0141 956 **** [home] or 0141 *** **** [work]. Your co-operation in this matter is greatly appreciated. Yours faithfully Frank Bowles Chair, Mains Estate Residents Association |
