Team News 19th May April 04.
Well its been awhile and i think it has sunk in for
most of us now.... we were pipped at the post. Congratulations to
Llanharan. Word is from Mr Moffett himself that there will be no
demotion and only the champions will go up. That will make 17 in the
premiership and 15 in Division 1. Beats me too still that's what the
powers that be have decreed. At the end of next season 2005 looking to
2006 it will be 3 down from the Premiership and 2 promoted from
Division 1 making 16 in the premiership and 16 in Division 1. So you
know as much as us now. Right lets get some Silver ware sorted for the
season. Silver ball, Banwen, gonna be a tough one. Boys have been in
Magalluf all week so no training, but i have been assured by Mathew
Wareham and Lloyd Paget that the boys will be out running on the beach
every morning and doing some moves in the evenings. here's the
team:-

Well with that lucky result against Llanharan second's
we better hope they don't play any first team players in their
remaining matches. Hey we can only play what's put in front of
us... and didn't we just. Caerphilly Saturday 22nd May put it in the
diary cos were playing Banwen. Gareth Brown forwards coach has
requested all supporters to attend the club after the Silver ball for
an end of season drink with him Leighton and the players. First though
we got a little journey to west Wales. Across to Narberth we travel
for our last league game of the season. Team news due to some last
minute fitness tests we aren't quite sure of the backs, Neil Dixon is receiving
treatment for a knee injury and is doubtful, Grant Epton will cover
full back, Jon Devereaux is also carrying an injury so a mix
between the centres will happen there some where if Jon doesn't
make it. Heres the line up as best we can tell.

What an excellent performance on Saturday, a festivity
of tries, well done lads, and well done Grant Epton with six, breaking
the club record for most tries scored in a season. 38 what an
achievement. Well done Grant that's also 31 league tries for the
season so far. So we are now 29 tries in front of Llanharan and one
game left for the season. Lets hope we win that one away to Narberth.
So tomorrow night we have another little game to play and that's the
semi final of the silver ball against once again Llanharan. Here's the

Tough game last week, they didn't want to give that
up, lads played well and got eight tries as well not easy. This
weekend wont be easy either, they never are. This really should of
been the last game of the season, but for Narberth being cup tied it
would of been. Big pats on the back for all the ground staff who every
other week in foul or fair weather got the pitch in a fit state to
play. So Tondu away, a team that has to be praised, week in week out
playing with a never say die attitude. Well done to the whole squad

Well what a great Easter weekend that was, excellent
game on Saturday followed by an excellent day on Monday at Maesteg
Celtic. So on to this week, first thing is the game is being played at
Tredegar, not sure if this is their first game back home but no matter
where it is played its going to be a tough one. What we got to do is win.
Tries will take care of them selves, we've got to win first and foremost.
Only one change to speak of this week and that's Mocky starting at
scrum half and captain. Least changes we have made in games changes all season. So here is the team:

Well what a result yesterday, 13 tries not bad at all,
excellent performance by all 22 players, all we got to do is win our
games and win them well and so far we seem to be doing just that. Well
after citing two Llanharan players (and sorry Llanharan the video
evidence is damming), the club received a return citing of four of our
players (evidence not so damming, trust me they have scrutinised it),
all good tit for tat stuff but just a small quote from the Llanharan
skipper Gareth Edwards “As for their action in citing us, I
can only say it smacks of desperation – they’re trying every trick
in the book to stop us.” ........ Desperation Gareth ? nah
! points on the board. Catch us if you can. So tomorrow we
have a bank holiday friendly against Celtic, the coaches are gonna
blood a few of the youth in that one which reminds me they beat
Carmarthen Ath yesterday 14 - 0 and were crowned champions of their
division, well done lads.
The backs for tomorrow will be:-
15. Mark David 14. Grant Epton 13. Paul Smith 12. Leighton Thomas 11. Nathan

What a performance by the team on Tuesday night, they
were tremendous. 14 against 15 for the best part of 75 minutes and
they managed 19 points between the two teams, flat pitch 15 against 15
and a consistent ref. Different ball game completely. Well done
Maesteg you were awesome on the night. Its not over yet, Llanharan haven't
got a lot in the pack but they do have pacey backs, unfortunately for
us losing 3 key players in the first 12 minutes only favoured

I'm saying nothing about last weeks game, if you were
there you would know, some of you cant be there true, it was awesome,
what an excellent display of rugby, The score flattered Whitland. They
weren't ready for that sort of pace at all, there was probably only 9
penalties in the whole game, it was so fast and furious there wasn't
time to commit an offence. A really good display, the old heads doing
all the wise stuff for the youngsters to perform and that they did. So
this week, Konica Minolta is back on the programme and we have a big
game against Cwmllynfell, and it will be a big game, they will be well
up for this and looking forward to it, I believe half the village is

What a game that was last week, its becoming a habit
now saying that, but wasn't it just though. Phil Bennett watching
reckoned it was the best game of rugby he'd seen in a long time, even
the Llangennech supporters were saying what a good result that was, it
was their best side all season, and we beat them. Excellent result.
Another tough one on Saturday, Whitland, got beat at home by Llanharan
last week, this will be no easy game, but we can also say that we aint
an easy team to beat and thats been proved through the results so far
this season. Couple of changes this week then due to a few injuries
picked up, Paul Smith out injured (Lip) and Leighton Thomas out with a
jaw injury. So in steps a couple of young starters Kevin Ellis and
John Devereaux to join Alan Bateman, takes up the average age of our

tough to win, they wont want to lose at home that's for sure, and
being unbeaten everyone will be looking to take our scalps. Couple of

Well what a game that was last week, thanks Tredegar
for some wonderful entertainment play like that every week and you
will have the crowds flocking in ..NOT!!!!...The main thing for us was
we won, 3 points. This week sees us start our Cup campaign again at
home to Llangennech. Today I attended the official kick off of the
Konika Minolta Cup. Maesteg were invited to the event along with a few
dignitaries press and TV, it was good, coaches Leighton and Gareth
were in attendance with players Karl Hocking and Mark David. Was
on TV tonight however Karl had a lengthy interview which I
think will be shown tomorrow and on scrum 5 Sunday. So this week then,
the 3rd round lets hope we can have a good run this year and get
a few much needed coffers in the pot. The team then well Dixie is in
at full back with grant going on the wing. Jason Riggs making
way and Nathan making way for Alun Brown, Mocky also starts as
captain. With more squad rotation amongst the forwards, here the full
line up.

Well we are back, well sort of....the league table ,
results match reports and the fixture list are all available and
of course this page, so we are getting there. Well what a result at
Brynmawr then, took the first 15 minutes then handled it quite
comfertable from there. Leighton Thomas having an excellant
performance and the whole team putting in an excellant display, solid
in defence, well done lads, not many teams will go there and win. Well
Tredegar at home is this weeks task. So Ian Strang is back in the fray
this weekend as is Paul Standing. Grant Epton fills the full back
position this weekend and Jason Riggs returns to the wing. Mathew
Wareham takes the captains arm band whilst Mocky starts on the bench.
Heres the full lie up.

What a good team performance last week. Good result as
well. Whitland this week, last time we played them we had 7 first team
choices out through injury and had to play a few youth players, that

young team we put out against them that day and they gave 110% never
gave up and never surrendered young lad in the second row Stephen

some good players.... remember Johnny... "here comes
Johnny". he is playing in the premiership in England now or so we
are told. But this weekend Its different as will the result be. Lets
hope the supporters get behind he lads as they did at Carmarthen

What an outstanding performance by the whole team last
week, its not often we travel back from the west country with a smile
on our faces but last week, it was a great performance and lets hope
we can repeat it this week. With such depth in the squad it is
big test for positions no harm in a little competition between the
lads lets hope it brings out the best in all of them. A Few changes
this week for our game against Llangennech and Leighton has a few more
words to say. Coaches Corner
