"The Tower"
There she stood in the lonely tower,
Alone and sad for hour after hour,
cold dark walls surrounded her there,
with no-one to love her , no-one to care.
This princess shivered in the dark gloom
praying that someone would rescue her soon
where was her prince, her handsome knight
on a big white horse to make everything right?
The prison tower was such an awful place
no smile on her lips, just tears on her face
no window here for sun to shine through
no sign of daylight, no bright skies of blue
She lay on the floor of hard icy stone
resigned to the truth that she was alone
just memories inside her , no hope to keep
not even dreams came, when she fell asleep
Then suddenly, there he was one day,
he opened the door and he took her away,
Charging out of the gloom into the fresh air,
on the back of his horse with the wind in her hair
She was out of the tower, no more lonely hours
he showed her the sun and bright pretty flowers.
She swam in blue rivers, bathed in the light,
the world that he gave her was happy and bright
They walked hand in hand on starry lit nights,
they danced, they laughed, they shared such delights.
He told her he loved her, she gave him her heart.
They said they would die before they would part
Then her knight became distant, seemed far away
he didnt want to go walking or make love in the hay,
he stopped holding her hand and laughing with her,
and it seemed like he didn`t really want to be there
desperately she tried to win back her knight
she tried oh so hard to keep his world bright
but her begging and pleading fell on deaf ear
he pushed her away, did not want her near
His passion and love for her were no more,
he put her back in the tower and locked the door,
and the tower was darker and colder this time
it seemed after her taste of bright happy sunshine.
This knight in bright armour she thought once so kind
rode away on his horse and left her behind,
not even knowing how cruel he had been,
how he`d broken her heart and shattered her dream.
What cruelty, to show her this world, then take it all away
she wished now that he`d left her in the tower that day
the tears flowed again much faster, the cold bit more than before
as she lay there on the stone looking at the heavy door.
