When we got to the Morris St Working
mens club this year we were greeted by a bombshell from Chris Coffey
the driving force and organiser of the Laurel and Harday , that it
was going to be the last that HE would organise , but more about that
later , we had no official photographer or video crew this year due
to internal problems so there will be no pictures to accompany this
report , after 16 years of setting up the Video and sound equipment I
finally got it to work first time ! amazing , first item on the
agenda was that we showed "Your Darn tootin" with a
new soundtrack by the Beau Hunks from Holland , the charity auction
with the famous , or possibly infamous Tony Bagley and friends who
this year collected for the statue appeal , I believe we raised about
£136 so well done .
Jean Darling again was again interviewed by
Chris and she revealed she has a new book out , full of new
photographs which were found by a gentleman in Czechoslovakia
, if any of you were at last years Harday you may recall that Jean
told us that a friend of theirs had stored a lot of photos and
memorabilia in their garage and the Garage allegedly burned down ,
well these pictures were in that Garage , the man had found the
in his attic after divorcing his wife and rather than putting them on
Ebay and making a lot of money he realised that they were of a
personal nature and probably of great sentimental value and so
contacted Jean to give them back , so very well done that man a real
Gentleman indeed.
Next up was the David Wyatt crazy quiz and this
year we had the Three Stooges quiz , apparently they had er
"Recycled" a LOT of Laurel and Hardy films and we had to
think of the Laurel and Hardy film which it reminded us of , some of
them were a bit obscure , which is par for the course with
David`s quizzes , of course to finish off the day we had the Kneesie
Earsie Nosie World Championship , this year it was won by Daughter
of the Desert from Nottingham.
Back
to the beginning then and Chris`s announcement that it is the last
Harday , Ian Parker our MC was circulating all day talking to various
Sons who all unanimously stated that "You cant let it stop , you
must carry , on as it is a long established event in the Sons
calendar" , so the former Wigan and St Helens Bacongrabbers have
formed their own tent called "Dirty Work" with Gary
Winstanley as our Grand Sheik you can
find out more at our website
so as from next year the "Dirty Work" tent Oasis no 277 of Wigan will be running the event with a slight name change
The Laurel and Harday, A Perfect Day!
and you can find out details by calling back to this website nearer the day
see you all in 2009 |
