| At the
Grand Sheiks meeting on the final day of the Itzehoe Convention, it was
agreed that the 8th European Convention would be held Near Dublin,
Ireland, from Thursday 23rd August to the Bank Holiday Monday 27th August 2007.
So I thought that as the 15th Laurel and Harday would be on Saturday 1st September, I would arrange a week of events in Wigan to lure any visiting Americans and Europeans to stay around after the Convention. Provisionally I sketched out a rough timetable: Monday 27th August: By plane or ferry from Dublin to Wigan. Tuesday 28th August: A day out in Manchester. Wednesday 29th August: A day out in Liverpool. Thursday 30th August: A day out in Ulverston. Friday 31st August: A day in Wigan itself.. Saturday 1st September: 15th Annual Laurel and HarDay Sunday 2nd September: Homeward bound. Wigan Wallgate and Wigan North Western railway stations provide a frequent railway service to Liverpool, Manchester and Ulverston, giving loads of freedom and choice of departure and arrival times, and the Quality Hotel in Wigan provides an excellent base, as several of us can now testify. This can be a car-free and coach-free week. More news when we have fleshed out some ideas...... Map and Directions to new venue HERE |
