bizarre injuries

the celebration
In a now infamous incident, Chelsea's Nigerian defender Celestine Babayaro broke his leg performing a trademark post-goal backward somersault on his debut in a pre-season match against Stevenage. The injury meant his Stamford Bridge debut had to wait a few months but thats not the worst thing....he was celebrating a goal scored by someone else!

the ladder
Arsenal keeper David Seaman was almost forced to miss Englands World Cup qualifier against Holland in 1993 by injuries suffered walking into a ladder on top of a workmans van.

the coffee pot
Former Preston North End midfielder Dean Barrick, last spotted turning out for Bury in England's second Division, managed to miss a month of action in 1997 after a steaming jug of coffee was spilt on his lap. The result was a burnt groin region. NASTY!

the golf cart
Then PORTSMOUTH hotshot John Durnin, was out enjoying a leisurely game of golf when he managed to crash his golf buggy into a fairway hollow. He dislocated his elbow putting himself out of action for six weeks.

the corner flag
After scoring Arsenal's Winning goal against Chelsea in May of 2000, jet-heeled Frenchman Thierry Henry sped off toward the corner of the pitch in exultant celebration. Unfortunatly, he was so fast he didn't stop in time and the corner flag promptly WHACKED him in the face.
