SfMap
Generates maps from Strikefighters HFD (Terrain height) and INI files

To use:
If you have a single StrikeFighters folder, properly installed, just run SfMap.exe and it will find your install folder from the registry.
Otherwise
- Either have a copy of SfMap.exe in the root folder of each SF install,
- or create a custom shortcut to SfMap.exe for each install with the target folder as a parameter to the EXE
- or drag & drop an SF install folder on to the EXE
Select a terrain from the drop-down list at top right
Planning Maps
Select display options:
- Show Relief, Cities, Airfields as required
- Show Gridlines for navigation (default every 100 KM)
- Set Skip Duplicates if you have multiple entries for some locations
- Select colourset required
- Select Blue Sea if required
- Select size (512 for planningmap1, 1024 for 2, 2048 for 3)
Click [Preview] to view map
Click [Save Map] to save as a usable BMP file as <terrain><n>.bmp
Note to use in StrikeFighters its best to use a Paint program to resize the file to EXACTLY 512*512 or 1024*1024 or 2048*2048
Copy the BMPS into the appropriate terrain folder as planningmap<n>.bmp, having saved any originals just in case
Edittable Map
For advanced users - paint your landscapes!
(NB This was all fng2k's idea)
Click [Export] to save as a 24-bit bitmap, name as indicated
The file can be editted in eg Paint Shop Pro
Note
- 0 heights show as white
- height info is in the red and green bytes with red being multiples of 256 M
- The values are inverted so darker = higher
- blue is not used, set to 128 to make 1 M distinct from 0M (otherwise it would be a VERY pale green)
- beware - colours may be misleading
I found the clone tool to be usefull for making a quick island, the eraser
good for clearing bumps out of the water.
After editting the BMP save it and click [Import] in sfmap
The existing HFD file is overwritten (maybe you should have backed it
up....)
Click [Preview] to review the changes
Load strike fighters, the reshaped terrain should be there
Mission Planning
For mission planning either
- Print the maps and use pencil and ruler,
- Use them as backgrounds in Kreelins editor
- Whilst in SfMap with a map displayed, note the coordinates for mouse position are displayed in metres, click on the map and the coordinates where you clicked are stored in the clipboard and can be pasted to an INI or mission file.

Known Problems
- Large maps can be corrupted on some systems
- Some terrains may generate incorrectly positioned cities/airfields/gridlines (may be fixed now)
