JUST THE TICKET!
One of the regions most well known and respected names in the world of local
bus companies, has become part of a Shildon based firm.
Eden Bus Services Ltd is now owned by GRAHAM'S handybus, which in turn is owned
by Musician and businessman Graeme Scarlett. Most people will know that ‘The Eden’ was a familiar sight around County
Durham for nearly 70 years, and the company has been a part of the Arriva Group
companies since being taken over by United Automobile Services Ltd in 1995.
Mr Scarlett told Jeff’s Bus Lane, that he is “delighted to have finally
concluded negotiations to have The Eden
as part of his business, as he has had links with the company since his youth
having used the school bus for some years like many other pupils, and it also
being the first company he drove for officially, after passing his PSV driving
test in 1979.”
“Most people will remember the quality of service supplied by staff of the The Eden, and we intend to continue and build
on that reputation for service. Although no decision has yet been made as to
what work will be applied for in The Eden
name, Mr Scarlett did confirm that any vehicle bought would be painted in the
distinctive Red and Ivory Livery and would carry the famous ‘The Eden’
logo’s, continuing that “whilst the decision to buy the company has some
nostalgia involved, it is obviously a business decision, and therefore will
continue to be run as such”.
GRAHAM'S handybus has recently been operating a Shoppers Shuttle Bus for the
New Asda Superstore in Bishop Auckland, which runs from Stand A of Bishop
Auckland Bus Station to the store every 30 minutes. Mon – Sat.
