Going Home

Going Home

Friday….. still no sun but we were determined to make the best of our last day even if it was raining and cold.  We had our last trip into Ferte Mace to buy a few momentos to take home….and fill up with petrol.

We packed up the gite, finished off the wine and cheeses …..  (we must have sampled a dozen or more different types of cheese during our stay, apparently there are 365 to choose from!)

Saturday morning car packed, we said our farewells to Christine, the gite owner.  Our journey back was uneventful, although the weather was gloomy when we set out, a few hours later it had brightened up….not enough to take the roof down though.  We stopped at the services at Dieppe for our last petrol topup in France, by this time it was very busy with returning holiday makers….the sun came out…. The roof came down!

Pulling into the port of Calais in plenty of time for the ferry we parked up and waited in the brilliant sunshine, a beautiful day for a short cruise across the channel.  We sat up on the top deck soaking up the rays and landed back in Dover just 90 minutes later.

Our total mileage for the two weeks was two thousand four hundred……….the roads in France are excellent, better than most A roads in the UK and less traffic, this was a very comfortable and enjoyable holiday, we would recommend it to anyone considering a taster of France.
