A Bug’s Life

21 October 2005

The ant hill is alive with movement
Soldiers marching, single file
Survival is the lasting purpose
The never-ending, gruelling trial

An insignificant microcosm
Specks of life shrunk out of view
A forgettable addition to creation
Could these ants be me and you?

Bone Fire Night

10 October 2005

Remember, remember the 5th November
Wholesome family fun
The re-enactment of a brutal death
To share with old and young

Remember, remember the 5th November
Cremation is the theme
Patriotism has reached a new low
When we can paint this scene.

Cattle Farm

01 October 2005

The faceless masses march to work
Slaves to the machine
Just a number and a name tag
Trapped in their routine

Outwardly, family-centred
But people are commodities
Your lifestyle is a liquid asset
To the service industry.

Chocolate Sunday

20 September 2005

Jesus died upon the cross
And rose again; miraculous
How should we observe this day?
Bear in mind, he died for us

Chocolate fertility for the kids
Eggs, rabbits and daffodils
Seasonal gluttony bathed in cocoa
No rugged cross upon a hill

Commercialised but so religious
The point was never lost on us
Stuff your face, for it is Easter
It’s nothing to do with Jesus.

Gift-mas

26 December

The winter solstice convoluted
Pretends to be a Christian feast
Raped of meaning, drowned in tinsel
As the star shines in the East

All are merry, out of pocket
Exchanging presents void of thought
No gesture just an obligation
'Tis the season to be bought

Hark the herald angels sing
A saviour's born and no one cares
The sacrilegious time of getting
When Santa Claus receives your prayers

Whatever happened to religion?
The cola man took Jesus' place
What started as a great tradition
Has disappeared without a trace.

Man-made Genocide

10 January 2006

Sophisticated modern man
Self-empowerment is his plan
Sells his soul to corporate chains
But never cares for what he gains

Ruler over land and beast
Destroys them all to make his feast
Rapes the world to plant his seed
A mindset built on lust and greed

The earth is fragile; kill the weak
Paradise is for the meek
Spirituality can be bought
Though your future may be fraught

Sophisticated modern man
Pays the price for his lifespan
His kingdom crumbles at his feet
The world destroyed; he claims defeat.

Sun-kissed

18 September 2005

Long days lying on the beach
Tanning in the sun
Splashing water in the sea
Children having fun

Blistered, cracking, flaking skin
Pealing from my back
Sweat-drenched clothing clinging close
The skin begins to crack.

That Friday Night Feeling

20 September 2005

Pouring poison down your neck
Inhibition is the goal
Never mind the damaged cells
Forget that this will take its toll

Wild flirtation with a stranger
Intimacy for a night
No one cares about fulfilment
If it feels good, it must be right.

Today's News

25 October 2005

Have you read the news today?
The nation needs to know
About who won a football match
It's more than just a show

Have you kept yourself informed
About celebrity lives?
Actors on their honeymoon
Singers cheating on wives

Murder can be second place
Poverty is old news
A dying child can share a page
With this week's film reviews

The superficial priority
That we can't live without
A tabloid bible to the stars
To whom we are devout.
