AZINCOURT (AGINCOURT) continued

Above Top Right: Brightly painted representations of longbowmen set up along the Azincourt - Tramecourt road, near where the British stood and fought. (In a marked contrast to France, it is a sad comment on the Britain of today that if anyone set up similar figures here, it would not be long before some mindless idiot vandalised them.)
Above Bottom Right: This is where it all happened in 1415, the view from the road towards the French position.

Left: This relatively modern Calvary is on the site of one of the burial pits where literally thousands of mainly French were interred after the battle.

Azincourt is a pretty little village, decorated with flags and figures similar to those above, and obviously looked after with great pride. There is a new “Visitor Centre” and museum where one can learn about the battle. It is interesting that they should go to such lengths to commemorate an event where the French were so terribly defeated.
