Arya
Samaj marks 130th anniversary with month of activities
This
year’s event is special since the organisation is observing the
130th anniversary of its founding with a month of activities. The
Arya Samaj, which was founded in India in 1875 by Maharishi Swami
Dayanand, has now spread across the globe with the mission of creating
a society of noble individuals who would practise the pristine
teachings of the Vedas. The
motto of the Arya Samaj is “Krinvanto Vishvam Aryam" (Make the
Universe Noble).
Various
groups from different areas of Guyana made their contributions by way
of bhajans, poems and chants from the Holy Vedas. The
Central Arya Samaj presented the Annual National Central Aryan Samaj
Award to Pandit Durga Persaud of the Skeldon Arya Samaj, in
recognition of his outstanding lifelong service to the ideals and
vision of the Arya Samaj in Guyana.
Participants included members of the Skeldon Arya Samaj, Bush Lot Corentyne Arya Samaj, Port Mourant Vedic Mandir, Windsor Forest Arya Samaj, Enmore Vedic Mandir, Enterprise Vedic Mandir, Vreed-en-hoop Arya Samaj, Georgetown Arya Samaj, Cottonfield Vedic Mandir and Hampton Court Arya Samaj.
