Arya Samaj marks 130th anniversary with month of activities
A section of the gathering yesterday at the Guyana Central Arya Samaj Annual Vaidik Bhajanaavali.
THE Guyana Central Arya Samaj (GCAS) yesterday hosted its Annual Vaidik Bhajanaavali at the Central Vaidik Mandir in Prashad Nagar.

This year’s event is special since the organisation is observing the 130th anniversary of its founding with a month of activities.

The Arya Samaj, which was founded in India in 1875 by Maharishi Swami Dayanand, has now spread across the globe with the mission of creating a society of noble individuals who would practise the pristine teachings of the Vedas.

The motto of the Arya Samaj is “Krinvanto Vishvam Aryam" (Make the Universe Noble).

Senior Vice President of the Guyana Central Arya Samaj, Shrimati Chitra Lall, said that activities such as havans, yajnas and marches were carried out across the country by the Arya Samaj community and culminated yesterday with the grand Veda Yagna and Vaidik Bhajanaavali.

Various groups from different areas of Guyana made their contributions by way of bhajans, poems and chants from the Holy Vedas.

The Central Arya Samaj presented the Annual National Central Aryan Samaj Award to Pandit Durga Persaud of the Skeldon Arya Samaj, in recognition of his outstanding lifelong service to the ideals and vision of the Arya Samaj in Guyana.

Best Graduating Student in Pharmacy of the University of Guyana, Ms Malaika Wiggins, accepts the Central Arya Samaj Award from Senior Vice President of the Guyana Central Arya Samaj, Shrimati Chitra Lall.
Ms Malaika Wiggins, the Best Graduating Student in Pharmacy, University of Guyana, received the GCAS Award also.

Participants included members of the Skeldon Arya Samaj, Bush Lot Corentyne Arya Samaj, Port Mourant Vedic Mandir, Windsor Forest Arya Samaj, Enmore Vedic Mandir, Enterprise Vedic Mandir, Vreed-en-hoop Arya Samaj, Georgetown Arya Samaj, Cottonfield Vedic Mandir and Hampton Court Arya Samaj.
