Archives not named for persons

Dear Editor,

I read your article, 'National Archives to be named after Rodney', in the June 15 issue of the Stabroek News.

In reviewing the International Council on Archives list of national archives throughout the world, I cannot find a single instance where a national archives includes the name of an individual in its title.

Even in nations where political motivations or cults of personality drive a renaming of institutions, landmarks, etc., none have gone this far. I feel this is an ill-considered move.

Yours faithfully,

John Wilmer

People it is time to cease complaining and commence writing letters of concern of the neglect by the Govt of Guyana of these records . Letters to the office of the president gets dumped and letters to Minister Gail Texeira are ignored . The Indentureship Database Project (IDP) , has tried relentlessly to secure permission at no cost to the Government and or people of Guyana to have these records digitalized .

How can the ruling PPP party and President Bharat Jagdeo ignore the history of a people who carried them for 5 decades ?
