| My name is Mohamed Asgarallie (Ashin) and I was born
on a Sugar Plantation-Blairmont in the County of Berbice-Guyana. Guyana (before
known as British Guiana) is located in South America and famous for its sugar,
rice, gold and can claim to be the source of one of the World's rarest, 1856'
ONE cent Black Magenta stamp
My parents 's marriage was performed according to India's Marriage Ordinance. I saw the marriage certificate which I left back in Guyana.
I was educated at the following Schools : Blairmont Government School Rosignol Government School Berbice Educational Institute Government Technical Institute, Georgetown, Guyana Technical Teacher Training Institute, Madras, India George Brown College, Toronto, Canada
After finished schooling I could not find a job. So I would go with my grandfather to help him on his farms. He told me about India while we were working and this conversations gave me the determination to see India one day. Months after my father forced me to a job as a trainee in the factory as he was well known to the Factory Manager Mr. Menie & Engineer Mr. Winston Tyrell. Well known because he never strike and was a productive strike breaker. I had never like this electrical job having tasted some nasty electrical shocks. Having customed to shocks and taking more precautions I made up my mind to stick to it. Believe me-once I have a determination it always comes through.Ooops, sorry! I cried once with shock. My favorite subject was Electrical Engineering Principles of which I made the Highest grade at the City & Guilds of London Examination. I made more progress in technical institute than in academic schools. Thanks to those nasty electrical shocks that makes me stores data, images and recall all in split secs Having completed Engineering Studies and working in the Sugar Factory, I took a part-time job at the New Amsterdam Technical Institute, lecturing to class for the City & Guilds of London Examinations. Pleased with the class's results, Claude Guishard, the Principal offered me a full-time position to take his class, as he was confirmed as Principal. Few years after, the Principal retired. The Principal was not a Guyanese. He recommended me for a scholarship to India during his time. but I did not get to go because of foreign currency problems
Later on I had a new Principal, John Cummings, a Guyanese who was one of my instructors at the Government Technical Institute. One day I was called to his office, and was told he sent through my papers for appointment as senior master. Now I spent more time in the office but yet he ducked away documentations dealing with scholarships to India. Any how my tons of letters made the Indian Embassy listened to me. The Government of India paid all my expenses, gave me Executive Class ticket, from New York to Madras where I studied Curriculum Design & Instructional Development , in Taramani, Madras, India A student, who was on the course with me, was given $500 US, by the state but they did not give it to me. I saw the $500 listed on his passport. After my studies finished I returned back to Guyana .The other student- with $500, absconded. I had to answer for his where about. My salaries were stolen too. After writing letters, few persons at the Ministry got into trouble and were sent on leave. I went to Stabroek News, and after they published my story, three (3) days after, I got my money. Denying me foreign currency was the work of a senior woman, Joyce Sinclair, in the Public Service Ministry, plus she also ducked a letter from the Indian Embassy which was supposed to be posted to me. During this time it was illegal for a public servant to speak to the Media, who cares I had wanted my salaries. Few days after I was on trial for talking to the media. During the trial I was asked, "do you want India to cut off aid to Guyana"?. These jokers, they caused it ,but they had touched the wrong person. I even requested my foreign currency, but was told," next time, you must tow the line" .I never knew Public servant must "tow the line". The woman who paid me my salaries, barks at me," Go tell Stabroek news that you get you money" My tons of letters were not written in vain, because the following year ,I saw all that all of the scholarships to India were published in the newspapers by the Embassy I am presently residing in Toronto-Canada and my last two (2) Technical jobs were as a Electronic technician and a Technical Support person for America Internet Service Provider ,JUNO I enjoyed my stayed in India and was amazed at progress there .Concorde made "Emergency Landing" at Madras Airport, that was more than progress. In my spare time I watch Indian movies, chat on the internet and on Saturday, if I am at home, I watch Indian programs from Guyana, Trinidad, India and Pakistan The best Indian movie I saw so far was Diwale Dulhania LeJayenge
