Dr. W. M. Thackery, 1798 to 1827, founded Infirmary library

Estates
1830 - Chester Infirmary - coal fired central heating insalled.
1903 electric light and hot and cold water at Chester Infirmary as part of the new Outpatient and Theatre development.
1955 - Chester Royal Infirmary nurses home was  re-modernised  with "the installation of central heating, comfortable bedrooms, television and attractive accommodation for entertaining visitors".

Telephones
In the 1950s Chester Royal Infirmary introduced bed side telephone access for patients.... "One very novel and progressive idea is a portable telephone which can be plugged in at the patient’s bedside enabling him to ring up his friends  and relatives at home."

Mrs Joan Hawkins of Vicar's Cross, Chester. Joan was a telephonist at the Chester Royal Infirmary from 1949 to 1963.
