MUSEUMS

The Royal Regiment of Wales - Super website with historical details of the South Wales Borderers and The Welsh Regiment.

The Somme Heritage Centre - Based in Northern Ireland, this visitors' centre has many features including a 'hands on' activity area and walk-through trenches.

The Western Front Museum - A virtual museum with many useful resources.

In Flanders' Fields - The website of the superb Ypres museum.

The Wardrobe - Home of the Royal Gloucestershire, Berkshire and Wiltshire Regiment (Salisbury) museum.

BATTLEFIELD ARCHAEOLOGY

The Diggers - The new website of the amateur Belgian archaeologists, recently at the centre of much controversy concerning their excavations near Ypres. Discover the excellent work being done by these volunteers.

An Unfortunate Region - A website about battlefields of the Great War with some interesting features on battlefield archaeology.

Battlefield Archaeology - Nils Fabiansson's superb website covers the archaeology of the Western Front, 1914-18.

HISTORY

The Heritage of the Great War - A Dutch site (also in English) which deals with many social and political issues arising from the Great War. Also with many strong images of the destruction of war.

The Great War Online - The 'how' and the 'why' made easy. Great for school history, but also with lots of up to date news to interest everyone.

The Great War in a Different Light - Huge resource of information an many aspects of the Great War. Extremely enjoyable.

Birmingham at War - A personal family website detailing the service of several individuals, and a fine example of what can be achieved through family research.

Shot at Dawn - Highlights the fact that over 300 British and Commonwealth men, many suffering from the effects of shell-shock, were executed during the War. This website is at the centre of the 'Shot at Dawn' campaign, a bid to clear tha names of these men.

Hellfire Corner - Tom Morgan, the author of the excellent Hellfire Corner website, also organises comprehensive tours of the Western Front. All tours are personally led by Tom himself. Recommended.

Salient Tours - Detailed tours, by minibus, of the Ypres salient. Also recently begun operating in the Somme area. British tour guides. I have not personally experienced their tours, but have heard some good things about these guys.

Sommecourt Battlefield Tours - Tours of the Western Front in the company of historian and author Paul Reed.
