Psalm
chapter 47 verses 1 to 2 "Clap your hands, all you nations; shout to God with cries of joy. How awesome is the Lord Most High, the great King over all the earth!" Hello and welcome to the International page of the Homerton College Christian Union website! We hope that you will be encouraged having read various aspects of our site so far and hopefully aren't too put off by the various photos etc!!! As a college, Homerton's main body of International students are those completing a Junior Year Abroad (JYAs) and we extend a warm welcome to those JYAs coming this year. We have a small number of overseas students apart from this and we pray and therefore hope that you will all feel very much at home in Cambridge and settle well as you study here. There are a
number of events and groups that meet in Cambridge both during term time and
through the holidays which we hope International students will benefit from as
they attend and most churches have International student teams and
workers. The following run weekly for International students:
THE
BARN A coffee bar open to international students at the language schools, Anglia and Cambridge Universities. It runs every Thursday all year round from 19.45 to 22.30 with music, folk dancing, conversation and friendship with English people. It meets in St Barnabus Church on the corner of Mill Road/St Barnabus Road. It is run by Christians in Cambridge and headed up by David and Judith Pilkington. HARRY'S
COFFEE BAR A coffee bar for
students from the language schools and universities too. It is great
for practicing English and forming friendships with the team of Cambridge
students who run it. It meets every Friday evening during term time from
17.00 to 19.00 with an optional Bible study half way through the evening. The
venue is the Henry Martyn Hall on Market Street in the city centre. GIRTON
COFFEE HOUSE Yet another coffee bar run by students in Cambridge! This is held out at Girton, along the Huntingdon Road. More will be added about this when term begins.
For those
wishing to get involved in International work in Cambridge please contact me at
the address below because God has richly blessed Cambridge with many
organisations and groups who would love to hear from you and have support both
in attendance and prayer. Keep an eye
on this website as more events are arranged. We will be having prayer meetings
specifically for overseas and International issues. More events happening
in Cambridge generally will also be added to this site as they are arranged. As Paul ends
2 Corinthians, "May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of
God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all". Our great
commission from Matthew chapter 28 verses 18 to 20, Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you to the very end of the age."
