Haworthia                                    H bayeri v scabrifolia

00445 George East of Ezeljachtspoort

An interesting discovery. While walking past the rather thick renosterbos shrub, I spotted a Haworthia seed stalk amongst the bush. Very excited, and expecting the stalk to belong to Haworthia picta (emelyae), it turned out to be a form of H bayeri. The flowering time is around December and January, which is later then other H bayeri, and corresponds somewhat to that of H magnifica. Some plants have broader, and less acuminate leaves then H bayeri from other localities. This locality is situated more to the south of the Oudtshoorn H bayeri forms. Being closer to the Outeniqua mountains this area receives a higher rainfall. The plants grow in thick renosterbos shrub and are very difficult to find.
