The Ann Ash Family Bible

This bible was handed down to me from one of my grand-parents. It contains information about Ann Ash and her family. I have now been able to tie this in with my own family - Ann Ash remarried after her first Husband, Edwin Roylance, died. She married my great-grandfather, Nathan Foden (his second marriage).

The Ash family lived in the Newbold/Astbury/Brereton areas. Ann Ash, a Sunday School teacher, writes that this is her book, it was presented to her in 1832. Ann records her own family's details including the numerous stillborn siblings. Edwin Roylance was her husband.

The images below are fragments from the bible.

Some of this information has been checked in Parish Records and is summarised as follows: (Red = corresponds with an entry in the Ann Ash Bible)

13 Aug 1820 Joseph William & Sarah Ash Congleton Labourer

It looks like there are 2 William and Sarah Ash families at this time, one being based in Congleton and the one that interests us based in Somerford and then moving to Brereton. I have a note that the Rev E Royd did work in Brereton so that makes sense.

This assumption being the case, I wonder why Joseph Ash, baptised in 1817, was not recorded in Ann's Bible?

It is interesting to note that the stillborn children were baptised.
