About Us
Welcome to the homepage of the Plymouth
Numismatic Society. We have a small but
active membership, whose interests encompass
the majority of what could be termed "numismatics".
We
have members who specialise in coins of a
particular ruler, to others
who just collect "what
they fancy"! There are also members who have an
interest in tokens, medals and medalions.
Meetings are held at 7:30pm on the 2nd Wednesday
of every month at:
Mutley Conservative Club.
22 Mutley Plain,
Plymouth,
PL4 6LD.
The club is friendly and informal. Meetings
usually involve
a lecture on some topic within
numismatics (have a look at the
programme
for further information), followed by an exchange
of news, or
discussions on the latest aquisition.
In addition, this year, we are hoping to start to
support other clubs
and societies in the locale
and possibly, have a club outing to London.
Membership is open to all.
The coin in the top left is a Denarius of Augustus,
first Emperor of
Rome. the legend reads
AVGVSTVS DIVI F
which translates as Augustus,
son of God.
The coins on the right hand side are all british
medieval hammered silver.
