Terry Pratchett has been described by various people as "the funniest author alive", "a 20th-century Charles Dickens","the most shoplifted author in Britain" (according to Safeway) and " a complete amateur, doesn't even write in chapters". He is a fantasy author, and indeed a funny fantasy author. However, many people seem not to have heard of him. This is quite surprising: every new release appears straight at the top of the bestseller lists, and one out of every ten fantasy novels sold in the UK is written by him. His most well-known books are his Discworld series of novels , but he has also written various other scifi books, not to mention books for children.
