At G.L.A.D. we offer a supportive environment for people anyway, but sometimes it is too difficult or daunting for people
to come along to our meetings - so our befriending project is primarily for one-to-one counselling/meetings. Our aim is to
provide a safe environment where people can come for a chat if they are struggling with their sexuality/or are experiencing
"coming out" problems.
There are currently 3 befrienders, Craig, Louise and Alison who are willing to meet up with whoever contacts them. Meetings
will usually
be held in a venue of your choice (wherever you feel most at ease - whether it be in a straight or gay venue).
We will not pressurise you into talking to us - we're here to listen and give advice when possible. Having gone through the
"coming out" process ourselves, we've come up against many of the key problem areas and now are able to give good advice to
people considering taking the step to come into the gay scene. Most issues we've found to be problem areas tend to surround
family opinions, friends views, self-esteem, fear of the unknown and worries about not being socially accepted.
What ever you are struggling to deal with, we offer a confidential service whereby no information disclosed to us will be
shared with anyone or discussed with any other individuals.
When contacted, we would arrange a date and a time to meet up with you and take you to a pub or cafe where we could talk.
Then hopefully, if you wanted, we could introduce you gradually to the gay scene.
We're here to listen, we are more than likely to have experienced some of the difficulties you are experiencing and would
like to help you.
