0021 - in the early morning dusk on 18th October 1969, visiting GWR Class 5600 0-6-2 tank locomotive 6697 is seen shunting a couple of coal wagons in the depot before the open day had started. 6697 was - and still is - part of the Great Western Society collection at Didcot.
0022 - 6697 is now busy shunting fellow Great Western Society locomotive , "Manor" Class locomotive 7808 "Cookham Manor", which is only in light steam. In the left background can be seen the "Railair" parcels DMU from the London Division, the leading (and end) cars being Derby Class 116 driving vehicles.
0023 - big LMS "Princess Royal" Class 7P locomotive 6201 (46201) "Princess Elizabeth" was also a popular visitor on the day. My schoolmate Dave Nield can be seen (red hat) fondly touching the cylinders of this big locomotive. He was rather fond of the big LMS Pacific's!!
0024 - one of the North British Class 22 Diesel-Hydraulic locomotives - D6354 - was present just outside the main shed. An early style of blue livery had been applied, having double-arrow symbols under each cab window rather than centrally placed on the body side.
0026 - three Classes of diesel-hydraulic are represented here in this shot of the stabling lines taken from Bristol Temple Meads station on 18th October 1969. Left to right we have "Hymek" Class 35 number D7047, North British Class 22 number D6310 still in green livery and Swindon built "Warship" Class 42 locomotive 824 "Highflyer".
0106 - a similar (but poor!!) three-class line up was also available on 1st August 1970. The locomotives this time are North British Class 22 number D6310 (again!!), Swindon built "Warship" Class 42 locomotive 809 "Champion" and first of the "Hymek" Class 35, number 7000.
0109 - on 1st August 1970, this view of the shed from the station shows anunidentified Class 47 locomotive, a 6-car "Bristol Pullman" set, a "Hymek" Class 35 locomotive and "Peak" Class 46 locomotive 181. The Class 46 is still in original green livery with a small yellow warning panel.
0111 - on 1st August 1970, an example of the North British built "Warships" - Class 43 - locomotive 839 "Relentless" was on the stabling lines at Bristol Bath Road depot. Class 43 locomotives were, on the whole, withdrawn first because they had more troublesome MAN engines and the Class 42 had Bristol Siddley-Maybach engines.
0112 - a Metro-Cammell built 6-car Pullman DEMU is seen here on 1st August 1970, trundling off shed past "Warship" Class 42 locomotives 839 "Relentless" and 864 "Zambesi".
0245 - on 4th April 1971, Bristol Bath Road had this line of EIGHT North British Class 22's on shed!! The one nearest the camera is 6308.
0677 - a "Hymek" Class 35 and a Brush Class 47 locomotive flank this pair of "Western" Class 52 locomotive at Bristol Bath Road on 16th September 1972. The two are 1070 "Western Gauntlet (left) and 1049 "Western Monarch". One of Bristol's Class 03 shunters can just be seen far right.
1091 - a view of the depot from Bristol Temple Meads station on 3rd October 1974 appears to be "hydraulic-free". Diesel-electric locomotives of Classes 31, 45, 46 and 47 seem to rule the roost now.
