Saving private Ryan
The feeling of heroism and patriotism is exploited by authorities, used in classical social system. The classic outlook forces the concept of “traitor” to become part of a dualism in which these upper ones are the other part. But things are not like that at all because at a closer view the one who is not a patriot is not necessarily a traitor. The traitor first joins a group of people, gains their trust and finally sells information or other things to another group, usually to the rival one. Authorities use this technique to discourage those who are not patriots and to blame them. On the other hand the heroes and patriots are encouraged because they are very useful. In classical way of life the robbery or the war with its slavery exploitation are the gained profit conditioned by these “values”.
A rigid and rough education that refuses to a person that feeling of maternal and familial community is the root of this outlook. The subject becomes circumspect, and somehow paranoiac. Anyway, these states of mind are educated to be suppressed also. They are accepted by the community only from superior to inferior because the reverse way can break down the state order. Of curse the lower people must suppress them. The war seems to be a solution from psychodynamic point of view for the tension accumulated in this way; fighting in war is a way to express the long time suppressed aggressiveness. The hate against opposite fighter, seen as the biggest enemy, is very fertile for authorities in wining the war. On the contrary, the heroism and patriotism means an overestimation of love for colleagues. This local patriotism can be seen very well in sports competition.
What is called postmodernism today, with its accepting diversity and with the need of escape in other places is not very deep spread in society, but it is specific to an educated and evaluated social elite. The main worker, that is the matter for economical exploitation did not change much its outlook from the last centuries. He or she is still an emotional victim like was a victim of aggressive education in the past. He or shi is political and economical a target.
The private Rayan does not know what is fighting for; he looks for goals in this mess. Those who sent him to fight humiliated him first with the lower treatment and with taking away his freedom of choice. He first must protect his skin and accept the superiors’ orders and after that must find a refugee for his soul. The heroic facts that politicians appreciate are the way of giving him that illusory faith of being a part of their “good world”. The infinite gratitude that they bring to his statue, a stone that stole him even his last piece of individualism, the shape of his body, is his moment of happiness. The bigger sacrifice Rayan makes the bigger is the gratitude for his heroism. If he save others in battlefield he is a hero becouse they could be sent to another war and increase the state's territorial profit.
Those who had been saved in war by him thank god for the fact they are alive and wonder themselves how good is the world when without war. They do not protest against social problems like would have done if it would not been the war. On the other hand, the politicians know that a stone will not ask for favors according to their praise to the skies. But if the war is lost by the Rayan’s country, then even this sacrifice is canceled. Anyway Rayan is the paper toilet of authorities, the milksop of civilization, the price paid by the humanity for a wild education that works for authorities in order to use him as an object.
