Coggeshall Fire Station - E24

Coggeshall is a Retained Fire Station. All firefighters have other jobs and are called out by an alterter.

Some of the firefighters are available for call out all the time. Others are available during the day, some at night and the remainder are shift workers who are available when not at their full time employment.

All firefighters are paid a retaining fee (hence Retained Firefighter). In addition we are paid for training and every time we are called out.

Of the 51 fire stations in Essex 18 are manned by wholetime firefighters and 33 by retained personnel. About 60% of fire stations in the UK are manned by Retained Firefighters.

Our training night is Thursday from 7.00pm - 9.00pm. It includes lectures and talks as well as practical instruction.

Training is carefully structured and taken one stage at a time. New recruits can be riding the Fire Engine after basic instruction at the station and a three day course.

We are always looking for recruits - see "would you like to join us" link.
