Q: Who the HELL are the Blue Powder Monkeys?!?

A: Put simply, the Blue Powder Monkeys are, and indeed always have been, Belfast's most avante garde, androgynous and ahine Queen Tribute Band. They also prey in the dead of night, and have been known on occasion to consider this a challenge before the whole human race (which they most certainly ain't gonna lose, y'all). In recent years, the band have been undergoing some problems due to geographical differences, however the core line-up remains:

A Blue Powder Monkeys Biography

The Blue Powder Monkeys were formed on 24th November 1991, by Freddie Mercury. Unfortunately, he died later that afternoon, so nothing much happened for a while.

However, it came to pass, in the Spring of 1992, that Spacemeal Robinson and Nickmeat Carlisle were kidnapped by spides, and brought to a party in the suburban wastes of Carryduff, where they witnessed someone with a very bad haircut in a very tight leotard singing Don't Stop Me Now. So traumatic was the experience that pair of them only survived by drinking a 3 litres of cider'n'blackcurrant each, only regaining consciousness 2 weeks later, to find themselves totally amnesiac of their lives up until that point. Moreover, due in no small part to their subconscious repression of the incident, they found themselves gripped by a strange compulsion to perform the songs of Queen before the general public.

Thus began an every spiralling descent into the bowels of the NornIrond entertainment industry. Heedless as to the consequences, Nickmeat & Spacemeal locked Deakie Bass in a cellar beneath a Dromore garden centre, forcing him to scream higher and higher each day in a sinister plan to construct a falsetto killing machine.

It didn't end there. In a very curious footnote, Saint Charlotte de Bryson nearly became the legendary missing 5th Blue Powder Monkey, and that's before there weren't even four of them yet! Oh yes. The rumours are true. For Nickmeat, Spacemeal & Deakie actually 'had' her in Deakie's bedroom, where she played analogue synth meat distortion and sang so sweetly that they were moved to pity and let her go.

But such kindness was to be shortlived, for but days later they accosted innocent clock repairman Stephen McDonnell, sprawled him across a car boot in Saintfield, and coerced him into hitting things very hard over and over again with big sticks on their behalf.

Within weeks, they had duped that media mogul of the Belfast Avante Garde Scene, Philip McGurrin, into letting them perform at The Errigle Inn. And so the Autumn of 1992 saw THE BLUE POWDER MONKEYS live on stage, where they quite liderrally screamed so high in perfect harmony that the PA cut out.

The strain proved too much for Stephen, and he fled the country, a broken man… and thus it was that Dan Slattery became the second reckless fool to sit on a stool and drum and be cool in the name of The Blue Powder Monkeys. Dan was to feature on the Blue Powder Monkeys Blue Powder Easter Bunny Blue Powder Tour, whose huge itinery consisted of a whole sell out series of just the one show in Easter'93, again at the Errigle Inn, where the groop were thrown off the stage by Ulsterbus Tours.

After that, the 3 core members continued to live inside a rhododendron bush in Dromore, where in the Summer of 1994 they recorded an epic 4-track version of '39, all of which was captured on film.
