Hoop-La: This site is brought to you by David Brookes, using mostly stuff and information ripped off from other websites, but all the graphics and design are my own work. The sheetmusic is collected from various websites, and/or received by email. The tabs have been collected from various sources over the last year, and they cannot be contributed to single institutions. The non-Smashing Pumpkins pages are older pages, and updates are not guaranteed, although I am transcribing some Divine Comedy sheetmusic and they should be up in the next few months. I recommend that you now go sign the guestbook. |
| The Smashing Pumpkins
consist of Billy Corgan, James Iha, Melissa Auf
der Maur, and Jimmy Chamberlin.
Most of the band members grew up in Chicago, but not Auf
der Maur, who only recently joined the group. They have
so far produced 7 albums: Gish, Siamese Dream,
Pisces Iscariot, Mellon Collie & the Infinite
Sadness, The Aeroplane Files High (box-set), Adore
and Machina. Machina was released on the
28th of February 2000. There are rumours of the band splitting up, following the running-away of D'arcy Wretzky to pursuit thespian ambitions. These rumours seem to be unfounded though. They have plans for a European tour to promote Machina, and it's looking like a trip to Ireland and Britain is on the cards. The band are running through Managers at the moment like they're going out of fashion (which is ironically what we are being told will eventually happen). The last victim was Sharon Osbourne, wife of Ozzy. One of the most respected managers in the business, she said after only two months in charge of the Pumpkins that "Billy made her physically ill", so that was the end of that. As to the next manager, it is beginning to seem that Billy is much more happy running the show himself, but who knows what the future holds. Jimmy Chamberlin "took a break" from the Pumpkins from 1996 to early 1999, because of an incident which involved drugs, Jimmy, and the death of the Pumpkins keyboardist. In that time, only one non-Chamberlin album was made, Adore. This excellent album is infamous for it's electronic pumped-up sound, which is especially evident in the drum beats. You could say that Billy went off on a tangent for this one. Now that Chamberlin is back in the group, things are going well. Billy has said that that now the "fearsome foursome" are complete once again, they can get back to some real work. Just after they completed their new album, however, D'Arcy left, but was quickly replaced by Auf der Maur, thankfully also good looking. Now all that remains to be seen is what MACHINA / Machines of God is going to be like. |
