TWO WOMEN 

Emmanuelle Béart confides that the role of Marlène required all the more care as it was preceded by two important films, Les Egarés and Histoire de Marie et Julien, both shot just before Nathalie… The complicity of Fanny Ardant was very precious to her, that's the way she relates about it :

“I had just finished shooting the films of Téchiné and Rivette successively. I was exhausted, my condition could have served the role of Marlène, but I needed Fanny’s patience, her glance, her kindness and her cheerfulness (…) Without Fanny, I wouldn’t have been able to handle it. It’s a little bit like Catherine and Marlène, who are looking to each other for the things they don't have themselves. Unexpectedly, I found a form of sensuality for my character watching Fanny, her little lustful and extravagant charm, her voice, her gestures.”
