Endangered Species
Each day 100 species become extinct. These animals will never live, breathe nor walk the Earth ever again. Your children will never see them in the wild. The eco-system will never be the same without them.
There are over 200 endangered species in the United States alone.
Despite the fact that the majority of animals become extinct due to declining habitats by human encroachment, only 3% of our total land area is given over as protected areas for the survival of endangered animals or other forms of wildlife (including plants).
By the year 2025, the Earth could lose as many as one fifth of all species known to exist today.
The main threats to these animal's very existence are: habitat destruction by unsustainable logging; ever-encroaching human settlement; pollution of water, soil and air by toxic chemicals; global warming and unnatural climatic changes due to fossil fuel use; unmanaged fishing that exhausts fish stocks; illegal hunting to supply demand for skins, hides, traditional medicines and tourist souvenirs.
ALL species play a part in the eco-system and web of life on earth. Each time a species is lost, the complexity, natural balance and beauty of our world is diminished.
