I made this page separate from my pets page because I mainly want to highlight here the plight of animals who have not been as lucky as my cats. Pet overpopulation is a serious issue facing almost every city in the world today. Why? There are many reasons, careless owners, cruel owners who turn their pets out, people who mistakenly feel it is their pets 'best interests' to have a litter... the list is endless. You will find many sites around that say the same as I am saying...
GET YOUR PET SPAYED OR NEUTERED!!!
Here are some facts and figures from the US Humane Society:-
Between 4 and 6 MILLION animals are euthanised in animal shelters in the USA each year
One female dog and her offspring are capable of producing 67,000 offspring in 6 years
One female cat and her offspring are capable of producing 420,000 in 7 years
There are not nearly enough homes for all the animals now. Please DO NOT add to the problem! You may think that if you let your cat have one litter she will only produce maybe 6 kittens and you can easily find homes for them amongst your friends. THIS IS NO VALID REASON! If you can home 6 kittens amongst your friends, then ask them to go and adopt a cat/kitten from death row at a local animal shelter. Go and visit yourself. Look at the animals. Would have even one of them die because you feel it would exciting/cute/fun to let your cat have a litter?? If you would, I'm sorry, but you don't deserve to have an animal in your life.
Reasons Why You Should Have Your Pet Spayed/Neutered
1. You will not be responsible for contributing to pet overpopulation.
2. Your pet will be healthier, probably cleaner and live longer.
3. You will eliminate expensive pregnancy-related vets bills.
4. Your male animals will be less aggressive.
5. Your male cats will not spray inside.
6. Your animal will be at less risk of being involved in a motor accident as it will not feel the urge to roam away from home looking for a mate.
Having a pet in your life can be one of the most rewarding experiences you will know. If you are considering getting a new pet, please take the time to visit your local animal shelter! They have lots of animals just waiting to love you and be loved! You might consider adopting an adult animal if you don't want the hassle of training a youngster. Remember adult animals deserve a second chance too!!!
Please help save a life!!!
If you agree that pet overpopulation is a problem, and support adopting a shelter pet, please feel free to take one of the banners below to display on your site. You do not need to link back to here, but it would be nice if you linked the banner to an animal shelter/charity. I only ask that you do not claim you made these banners yourself or offer them for download on another site.
