Jorvik or York as it is known today is a city in the heart of Yorkshire England which has been a thriving city for several thousand years. The vikings of Denmark and later the Norse vikings can be directly thanked for this thriving city. The vikings were very good traders and brought many hundreds of specialist craftsman to the city. Unfortunately in this day and age we see vikings as just warriors and plunderers but this clearly was not the case. As you can see with the illustration above vikings were also very skilled in building.

The Vikings had Horns on their helmets?

No.... many helmets of this period have been found throughout Europe, but none has ever been found with horns. the idea that the Vikings wore horned helmets comes from 19th century romanticised notions of the Vikings general appearance. A few pictorial sources, such as a tapestry from the Oseberg ship burial, in Norway, show what may be a horned helmet used for ceremonial purposes. However, no viking warrior would normally wear such a helmet
