BES

BES IS AN UGLY GOD BUT ALL HIS POWERS ARE ON THE SIDE OF THE FAMILY.

He is a bandy-legged dwarf with some of the features of a lion. He often wears a panther skin and holds a weapon to show he
is ready to defend a woman and her newly-born children.

One of his responsibilities in a temple is to ensure that the child of the major god and goddess is symbolically born without
problems. The part of the temple-enclosure where this protection was guaranteed is called the Birth-House or Mammisi.

Bes often appears as a decoration on headrests, footboards, cosmetic containers or mirrors. He is also a god who enjoys music,
particularly the tambourine or lute.

Bes has an important role as a god who will prevent snakes and scorpions harming the family.

GEB

GEB IS THE EARTH-GOD.

The Nile Valley stretches along his body. He is represented as a man, lying down and leaning on one arm. Often his skin is
green to indicate vegetation and the fertility of the land of Egypt. For example, barley, ancient Egypt's staple crop for
bread, sprouted from his ribs. His name is written with the hieroglyph of a goose, which he sometimes wears as an emblem on
his head.

Geb is one of the children of SHU and TEFNUT as is his sister-wife NUT. The children of Geb and NUT are the deities OSIRIS,
SETH, ISIS and NEPHTHYS.
