Egypt Cottage got its name from the Little Egypt area of Newcastle where it was built in the 18th Century. The pub, being close to the Quayside, was a renowned watering hole for the many sailors plying up and down the Tyne.

Egypt Cottage's uniqueness has continued to the present day and you may recognise the Pub as the venue for the cult music programme The Tube.
