"Plant medicine connects us to the spirit of place..the spirit of nature. The connection with nature is exhilerating and beautiful, but it is not a luxury. Connection with nature is health; health is life. Without it we shrivel and die..With it we prosper. This is so because we are nature; we are made of dirt and rain, sunshine, minerals and gases. How we relate to the landscape within is how we relate to the landscape without"
Plant Spirit Medicine - Eliot Cowan

Below are links to herbs that constitute "HedgeRow Medicine" - ways to treat everyday illnesses with herbs that grow in the hedgerows, fields and woodlands of Europe, including the UK. There are also links to medicines in our gardens and links to herbs from the rest of the world.
HedgeRow Medicine was used by our ancestors as up until as recently as a couple of generations ago and during WWI the public were paid to collect wild herbs to supply medical services. It is a skill that has, unfortunately died down, but is slowly enjoying a return as more and more people take an interest in their health, heritage and environment.
Herbs from the rest of the world are herbs that originate in North America or more tropical climates, but are often available here as garden plants or herbal preparations. Our gardens are impotant places for growing medicinal plants that would not normally grow in our climate.

Please note the information given throughout these pages does not constitute medical advice. It is always advisable to see a qualified practitioner especially when treating serious conditions; taking prescribed medication; if pregnant (or trying to conceive), breastfeeding; or treating children.
