TODAY is a local tabloid in Singapore. Distributed free-of-charge, it reaches out to daily commuters in public buses and trains. In early August 2001, I wrote a public appeal letter to encourage Singaporeans to come forward to participate in the conservation of Chek Jawa, a coastal intertidal sand flat ecological system targeted for land reclamation. Landfilling of the wetland was scheduled to start in December 2001. TODAY picked up the letter and published it on 17th Aug 2001. Originally titled as What does your heart tell you?, a scan of the published letter is produced below. Although edited, the letter retained its forthrightness and fervency.
