KNAPP TREBLE SECURES CUP PROGRESS
Striker Chris Knapp nets
a first half hat-trick to
ensure a 4-2 cup victory.

Soberton Utd 2
Fareham Dynamos 4
Knapp 3, Brenson
Striker Chris Knapp netted a superb 38 minute hat-trick to help Dynamos to a 4-2 away win in the Nicholson Cup. Despite falling behind on 8 minutes Dynamos fought back to lead 2-1 before Soberton levelled. Knapp restored the lead before half time with a cracking lob over the keeper for 3-2. The
second half inevitably saw Dynamos defend strong as Soberton fought hard to stay in the cup. Keeper Leete pulled off 2 oustanding point blank saves to maintain the lead before a breakaway goal from Mark Brenson made it 4-2 and beyond Soberton. The victory was only soured by an injury to defender Mark Pearce, the extent of the injury to be confirmed soon.

man-of-the-match:
Chris Knapp

Dynamos came straight out of the blocks and Knapp almost scored after 45 seconds when a through ball from Tudge put him clear but he shot over. Then a chip over the top from Brenson saw an unmarked Whatley miskick 6 yards out. Soberton scored with their first attack, a corner was cleared off the line by Everitt but the rebound was thumped home for 1-0. Dynamos stormed back but it took 7 minutes to equalise, good work from Smith saw him send a fabulous ball through the defence for Knapp to run on, keep his feet after a late tackle and fire across the keeper for 1-1. Hale almost put Dynamos in front a minute later but his shot was blocked on the line by the keeper. On 23 minutes Dynamos had a corner, Brenson sent it short and Knapp reacted quickest to fire into the roof of the net for 2-1. Dynamos had loads of chances to increase the lead but yet again they were caught by a sucker punch, a ball over the top put the Soberton striker 1 on 1 and he duly put the ball away for 2-2. The lead was restored 2 minutes later when an Everitt through ball put Knapp through again, as the defenders and keeper advanced he deftly lobbed the ball over all of them for 3-2. Soberton headed wide just before half-time.

Soberton switched to 4-2-4 at half time and flew at Dynamos, Leete was called into action early to make a fantastic one handed save round the post. It was all Soberton and they were close to the equaliser when they headed just over, then Webster cleared off the line from a corner followed by a save from Leete when the striker was 1 on 1. The long ball was Dynamos only option as it had worked so well in the first half, but Soberton were defending well. Yet, with 18 minutes left, Knapp brought the ball down well and realised Brenson through the middle, Brenson showed good strength to hold off the last man and fire under the keeper for 4-2. Mussington cleared off the line minutes later and Dynamos were camped in their own half as Soberton through everything at Dynamos. The striker wasted a good chance to bring them back into it but somehow headed over when unmarked. Martin Smith almost netted a 5th but shot over from 25 yards. A good cup win inspired by Chris Knapp.

Final Score was 4-2 to Dynamos.
