When we made volume 1, it quickly became apparent that there were tons of great songs that weren't going to fit on one CD. Thus was born volume 2! Volume 2 features more music by the same 11 bands/individuals that were featured on volume 1. The next volume, featuring bands from Germany, Sweden, USA, Ontario, UK, Australia and Brazil is nearing completion. Estimated release date: late November '99.
Tracks; 25 tracks from A:Minor, Bill Foreman, U.T.P., Down With The Ants, 28 Day Notice, Air Hockey Injury, Brian Forden, Grenade, Bluntz Millions, Graham F Watts and The Busted Fans
One hesitates to use the phrase 'more of the same', but in this case it's true.
But this is no bad thing. Another eclectic amble through the world of lo-fi,
courtesy of Duckweed Records.
Grenade continue to impress with non-album track "Bastard" being a particularly
fine track. But this time around The Busted Fans come up with the best song on
the album with the epic stagger that is "Allegedly". Don't go looking for them.
They were demolished in 1994.
Special mentions go to Down With The Ants with the eminently sensible
"Phone Co Telemarketer Lady", with it's ska meets metal insanity. Bill Foreman
conjures up another classic story with "The Canadian Vacation" and
28 Day Notice emerge blinking with the twisted "Pennies & Pushchairs".
Another excellent offering from our new buds at Duckweed.

Global Lo-Fi Underground, Vol 1 & 2 (VARIOUS ARTISTS)
A couple of very interesting compilations CDs put together by a small indie label from Seattle, called Duckweed Records, Global Lo-Fi Underground is an amalgum of cool music from a stack of interesting & sometimes unheard of artists who are sometimes unsigned & who do a lot of their own recording at home.
Some of the artists I had heard of have already sent material to hEARd for review include Bill Foreman, The Busted Fans & Brian Forden, while others I had heard of were Grenade & the always interesting U.T.P. While the very nature of Lo-Fi as a genre usually means somewhat low recording quality, there are certainly some excellent productions here.
One such production is from a band called Bluntz Millions, who contribute a couple of tracks to volume 2, sounding a little like what you'd get crossing The B52's with Devo, others like Grenade, who have songs on both compilations, may not have the budget for a big studio recording, but they make up for it with interesting music. Probably the pick for me come from 2 bands, the first being Air Hockey Injury, an Australian act who is apparently a solo guy from Victoria, while the same person is involved with U.T.P., a co-operative between 2 people, one already mentioned in Australia, the other from UK, both of who have never met. Definitely a great way to expand your musical pastures & there are some true gems here.

"I've listened to volume 2... it's great. I hope you are really happy with them because in my opinion, they've come out fantastic."
