Churchinford a small village set close to the Blackdown hills within the boundaries of the Culm valley the river Culm is just a short distance away.

A farming community that had its own water mill very little has been written of this small community the family researcher who is searching the records for the names of family members will find them listed as in Churchstanton as is the case with other small communities

Of the area.

Stapley  1.1/2 miles distance from Churchinford

Churchstanton the same distance 1.1/2 miles

Fyfett  1.1/2 miles

Bolham Water  1.1/2 miles

Smeatharpe   1.1/2  miles

Buckland St Mary about four miles.

Of interest to the Sparks families Churchinford is only three miles from Rosemary lane where George Sparks murdered William Blackmore.

We will find that most of the people of these villages were listed as being born baptized married died buried in Churchstanton for instance Samuel Sparkes died in Churchinford  25th September 1870 yet he is in the Churchstanton records

Little had changed by 1847 as William Sparkes of Churchinford who died at Churchinford  17th November 1847 is listed in the Churchstanton records.

The researcher should be aware of this when searching for family members that they knew came from villages around the Churchstanton area a rule that has saved me hours of repeat research is never discount a family name just because it is not in

The village one expected to find it record them all for as sure as god made little apples sometime in the future those names will be important.

From my list of family names as my family Originated from John and Dorothy Sparke of Churchstanton/Clayhidon gleaned from parish register, census, and Bishops Transcripts the Sparks listed as in Churchinford are few but people of that time might live in  Tapley but worship in a church of another village or consider themselves as living in a neighbouring village just because it was closer to their cottage many as I have already said where recorded as living in Churchstanton so family members would be listed outside ones assumed village of research also keep in mind that they were for the most part Agricultural labourers and moved around from farm to farm some were for a fact recorded in villages other than their own.
